Tome Topple 2017 {Round 3 Wrap Up}

And that’s a wrap on Round 3 of Tome Topple!

I honestly wasn’t expecting to read as much as I did in the course of the 2 weeks, especially when you add having to work into the equation. Granted most of the time I ended up getting called off so I had more time to read than I originally planned on having for the readathon.

You can find the post I did for my Tome Topple TBR here.

The book I chose to start Tome Topple with was Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas, which is listed at 648 pages long. I started with QoS because I knew that it was a book I would fly through and get done fairly quickly.. which worked out perfectly because I managed to finish it in 5 days.

It was so great to finally pick up this book, and return to my book-boyfriend Rowan once again. The only thing I had a problem with was I felt a very distinct change in certain characters. Without getting into spoiler territory, it seemed to me like the type of relationship two characters had at the end of Heir of Fire made a pretty abrupt shift in Queen of Shadows. However I will admit that I wasn’t too against the change itself I just personally think the original direction I felt it was going in would have been better.

After finishing Queen of Shadows I jumped straight into a new release that has been practically taking the book community by storm and that was Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor, which for the Australian paperback is listed at 544 pages. Admittedly I was apprehensive about giving this book a chance, purely because my history with Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy isn’t the greatest (simply put I wasn’t a fan). But I was convinced that I should give it a chance and I am so glad I did!

It took roughly about 60 pages for me to get lost in the story but once I did I couldn’t put it down.. I had to know what was going to happen and after the way Laini Taylor chose to end this book I’m officially stealing a TARDIS and getting my hands on the next book. Seriously.. give me The Muse of Nightmares, I need it immediately.

In the End:

In total I managed to complete two of the five challenges (I read more than one tome and one of them was apart of a series), as well as reading a grand total of 1,192 pages! Considering I wasn’t expecting to finish two books in two weeks this was a huge accomplishment. My only regret is not taking part more socially and participating in the reading sprints held on Twitter, but maybe I’ll do this more next round.

I will most certainly be doing Tome Topple again, so keep an eye out here and over on my Twitter for updates on when the next round is!
