Mid-Year Book Freak Out {Tag}

I was so happy to receive this tag from Laura (readinglust), mainly because I have been slacking on my blogging responsibilities and also because I love doing tag posts. I first heard of this tag on BookTube and it looked like fun so I’m glad it made its way to blogs too!

Alright, enough babbling lets get into it!

Best Book You’ve Read in 2016

A Court of Thorns and Roses16096824
by Sarah J. Maas

It was hard to choose just one favourite book of 2016 so far.. because there have been a couple books that fit the bill for this category, but A Court of Thorns and Roses was an unexpected discovery. I wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I did and I am so glad I finally picked it up. I’m so happy this series is being extended and getting more books, because this trilogy definitely deserves to be longer, I need me some more Rhysand and Lucien!

Best Sequel You’ve Read in 2016

13206760Scarlet (The Lunar Chronicles)
by Marissa Meyer

Much to my annoyance I keep starting new series instead of continuing the ones I already have started, so I’ve only read two sequels so far this year. My favourite part about Scarlet was without a doubt Carswell Thorne, one of my newest fictional boyfriends.

I really miss Thorne.. I should probably get started on Cress soon so we can be reunited.

New Release You Haven’t Read But Want To..

And I Darken30463345
by Kiersten White

I admit that when I first read the synopsis I wasn’t sold.. but after Christine (weereader) raved about it on Instagram and told me I’d love it I took the plunge and bought a copy.

Plus, I mean just LOOK at that cover. Isn’t it the most stunning thing you’ve ever seen?!

Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of the Year

27840861Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows)
by Leigh Bardugo

Ok, so as of this very moment I haven’t finished Six of Crows yet.. but it’s Leigh Bardugo. She stole my heart with the Grisha trilogy last year and 2016 is the year she shatters it with Six of Crows. Leigh can basically have all my money because she is an auto-buy author at this point. Need I really explain myself here?!

Biggest Disappointment

by Alexandra Bracken

I by no means hated Passenger, it just happens to be the book I was extremely excited to read (I even pre-ordered a copy) and certain aspects of it left a little to be desired in the end.

That being said I am going to give it’s sequel, Wayfarer, a fair chance to make up for Passenger’s short comings. There is so much possibility hidden within the pages of Wayfarer I hope to be wowed next year.

Biggest Surprise

by Karina Halle

I was thoroughly surprised by how much I enjoyed Smut. The New Adult genre and I haven’t gotten along very well until I read this particular book. It was a much needed fun and nerdy read that helped me get out of a book hangover of epic proportions.

It’s also by a Canadian author, so an extra 10 house points to Ravenclaw right there! πŸ˜‰

Favourite New Author

V.E./ Victoria Schwab

I’ve only read A Darker Shade of Magic by Victoria so far this year, but I can already tell this woman is going to be a favourite of mine for many books to come.

I am fully planning to devour more of her work, specifically continuing the Shades of Magic trilogy and hopefully This Savage Song too. Also, it’s my mission to nab a hardback copy of Vicious for my personal library.. but it’s so expensive 😦 it breaks my heart just thinking about it.

Newest Fictional Crush

25494343Mark Blackthorn
from Lady Midnight
by Cassandra Clare

It’s not unexpected to learn I have yet another fictional boyfriend from a Cassie Clare book.. there’s at least one in all her Shadowhunter series.

I already know that Mark Blackthorn is going to leave my heart in pieces by the end of this trilogy.. it wouldn’t be a Cassie Clare book otherwise right?

Newest Favourite Character

Kaz Brekker23437156
Six of Crows
by Leigh Bardugo

Okay, okay.. so I haven’t finished Six of Crows as of yet but I already know that Kaz is my type of character. He obviously has secrets that I need to figure out, and he definitely lives on the line that borders villainous and unforgivable.

We ALL know those types of characters are my kryptonite.

Book That Made You Cry

17347634Me Before You
by Jojo Moyes

I was hesitant to read Me Before You, but I had heard nothing but good things about it and I had to see the movie (Sam Claflin AND Emilia Clarke, duh). With my mind set I went out and bought the book. There’s a tear drop stain near the end of the book to prove I cried haha.

Book That Made You Happy

Kindred Spirits28195785
by Rainbow Rowell

Technically this is a short story.. but regardless of its length Kindred Spirits made me happy during the time it took to read. To start with it’s about a girl who is a massive Star Wars fan, and furthermore it’s Rainbow Rowell. I grew up watching Star Wars and was equally as excited about the release of The Force Awakens as Elena was, so I felt like Elena and I were kindred spirits (sorry, that was too good to resist).

Favourite Book to Film Adaptation

e640c659a7ed58ba2bbbdebf392c3795Me Before You
by Jojo Moyes

I know I already used this book as an answer for a previous question, but I just watched the Me Before You movie a couple of days ago and I loved it.. absolutely adored the movie. Proof is in the fact that I was teary eyed probably only five minutes in. Sam Claflin was amazing as Will Traynor and Emilia Clarke was breath taking, I would easily watch this movie again a million times over. I need it on DVD for sure.

Favourite Post You’ve Done This Year

I would have to say my favourite post so far this year is myΒ A Darker Shade of MagicΒ review. I am often unsure about the quality of my reviews before and after publishing them for others to read, but the review I wrote for A Darker Shade of Magic is one of my best if I do say so myself.

Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought This Year

A Court of Mist and Fury
by Sarah J. Maas

What Book Do You Need to Read Before the End of the Year

A Storm of Swords62291
by George R.R. Martin

Last year I took the plunge and started probably one of the most daunting series I have ever heard of, and I manage to read two of the five books currently published. Originally I set the goal of reading another two books in this series but I would settle for just the one if I can! We shall see what happens by the end of the year..

This was fun! It may have taken two attempts at getting this post formatted exactly how I wanted it (struggles of being a perfectionist I swear) but I did enjoy answering these questions πŸ˜€ . I’m not sure who has already done this tag, but if you’ve read this and decide to do the tag yourself ping back to me cos I would love to read your answers πŸ˜‰

PS: apologies for the tiny pictures.. how I wanted to format it wasn’t cooperating with me this time around x.x which seems to be a running theme in my life these days.

  1. Glad to hear that you enjoyed doing thins tag.I agree on so many thing on the list! ACOTAR was definitely unexpectedly good, I have been avoiding reading it for so long after being let down by Throne of Glass, but it was wonderful, the sequel especially. Thorne is just amazing! And I’m glad that someone loves Mark Blackthorn as much as I do, he was the best part of Lady Midnight. And anything that involves Six of Crows is automatically my favourite, cannot wait for the sequel to finally be released.

    • Throne of Glass was a bit disappointing when compared to all the hype I heard about it beforehand, I was expecting to like it more than ACOTAR. Omg I need to read ACOMAF still! I keep putting it off cos I know I’ll end up in a book hangover.

Mark was definitely the best part of Lady Midnight ❀️ I need more of him immediately. And anything involving Leigh Bardugo is becoming an automatic favourite πŸ˜‚

      • I did like the first two books in Throne of Glass, but with all the character reinventions, those books were mentally exhausting. I always binge-read the series, so I took a long break from SJM before picking up ACOTAR, and I am so glad that I decided to read it!

      • πŸ˜€ me too!! More people should rave about ACOTAR.. I never heard much praise towards it, which made me hesitant to start it.

I really need to delve back into the Throne of Glass series.. been too long.

  2. Yay that your reading and enjoying Six of Crows! Kaz is the perfect little anti hero and all the characters in this book are just amazing to me πŸ™‚ I’m currently reading And I Darken, I’m liking it so far but I’m only a few pages in XD I’m starting A Song of Ice and Fire this month, I’ve been putting it off for so long because of the size of the books but I’m finally getting into it hopefully I can finish the series this year πŸ˜€
